The Friday-night freezer save

Every vaccine refrigerator and freezer across nine clinics carries an SNMP temperature probe, polled every 60 seconds by the site gateway. Each unit is assigned a threshold profile — low and high warning and error bands — and a notification monitor with a 15-minute warning delay, so routine defrost cycles never page anyone.

Friday, 9:40pm: a freezer compressor at the northside clinic begins failing. The temperature clears the warning band and stays there; after the configured delay, the pharmacy recipient group gets a Google Chat message. By 10:20pm it crosses the error band — the on-call channel pages, with the full temperature curve attached. Product is moved to the backup unit that night; the excursion report for the health department is an export of history that was already being kept.

The pharmacy techs who acted on it hold the obs:sensors role scoped to the 'vaccine' sensor class: they see every fridge and freezer trend line, and nothing else — no network topology, no flows, no settings. Meanwhile, the same platform's evaluation view is what the network team used the prior week to trace a telehealth quality complaint to a provider path change, with hop-level evidence for the carrier ticket.
