Each store is a site with a small gateway: it polls the switch and UPS over SNMP, checks the POS terminals and self-checkout kiosks with scheduled connectivity checks, ingests flows from the edge router, and polls the walk-in freezer and cooler probes every minute. Store 41's Saturday starts with a warning: freezer temperature is 12 degrees above its learned overnight normal — compressor icing. Facilities gets the warning channel; the case is fixed by a technician Saturday afternoon instead of discovered Monday morning.

Sunday, the same store's POS latency alert fires — sustained, not a blip. The evaluation shows the story in one view: guest WiFi traffic (a viral video weekend) saturating the uplink, card-processing flows competing, latency climbing. The fix is a shaping policy pushed that evening; traffic-by-category confirms the guest network is capped and the register traffic is clean by Monday's rush.
